Planning a Vacation out of the country

I told my wife that I am planning a vacation out of the country for the first time. This is going to be something new and I wanted her to know what to expect. She asked me if I was making a list of everything we need to do before leaving on the trip. I responded to her that the list is started and she is welcome to add anything to it. She asked me about the foreign exchange and how it is done.
