You can sign up for them if your employer offers them, they’re a benefit at your job just like health insurance. If they don’t, you can find a similar account option at financial companies independently, like an IRA. However, 401k accounts have some unique advantages, such as the 401k match. This is set up so that your employer will match your contributions, up to a certain percentage of your income. Whether you decide to go with a 401k or IRA, it’s a great idea to open up some kind of retirement savings account and start saving for your future.
